HYLL Set To Open Next Month in the North Cotswolds
This September, the North Cotswolds will gain a new retreat; one that invites guests to slow down and simply be. Set within 60 acres of meadow and woodland in Charingworth, just beyond Chipping Campden, HYLL is a 17th-century manor house carefully restored into a boutique hotel that feels less like an escape and more like a return to life at a gentler pace.
The Grade II-listed house, along with its neighbouring outbuildings, once frequented by T. S. Eliot, has been reimagined by Manchester design studio YOUTH. Their approach was to balance heritage with a restrained, modern warmth: hand-finished plaster walls, weathered timber, Cotswold stone, aged metals. Bedrooms are pared back but rich in detail; uncluttered rooms with soft linens, Naturalmat beds, well-stocked pantries, and windows that frame open views. A growing sculpture collection can be found across the grounds

HYLL takes its name from the Old English word for an elevated place, and though that’s literally true, it also hints at the mood of the place: calm, unforced, and gently lifted from the pace of everyday life.
At the heart of the house, a low-key restaurant led by chef Mark Coleman will offer seasonal menus built around delicacies found on or nearby local farms, mills and distilleries. The cooking will be simple and unfussy, an invitation to linger.
Guests are encouraged to live as though the hotel were their own – to play a record and put the phone away, to nap by a fire after lunch, to sip something quietly on the terrace while views roll out towards the Malverns.

The estate’s fields and woodland, dotted with benches hidden in hedgerows, and a monthly Sunday walk with a communal lunch will bring together guests and locals. HYLL has also partnered with Borzoi Books, curating an in-room reading list and launching a supper club series that brings authors and artists to the table for conversation and delicious delights.
Thoughtful collaborations define the details: a bespoke Verden scent for the bathrooms, Private White VC jackets for walking, Grind coffee machines, and locally made ceramics. Wellness specialist Kathryn McCusker has created guided meditations, sound baths and breathwork sessions tailored for in-room ease, while a “Meet the Makers” series and festive 12 Days of Christmas programme will unfold as the seasons turn. In each room, guests will find a token of appreciation alongside a printed Do Nothing guide and handpicked local recommendations.

Looking further ahead, 2026 will see the addition of an events barn by Tim Groom Architects. Built from local stone and timber, it will host up to 150 guests for weddings, performances and private gatherings, all framed by the surrounding hills.
Room rates at HYLL begin at £350 per night, including breakfast, and we, for one, can’t wait for it to open.
